Marc Marquez held his nerve to battle past Italian duo Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone at the Aragon Grand prix to extend his 2018 MotoGP title lead. He started down in third place on the grid, however soon benefitted from a lap-one Jorge Lorenzo incident which saw the Ducati rider dislocate a toe.

The reigning champion exchanged the lead with his 2017 title rival Dovizioso until late on when the Suzuki of Iannone joined them for an exciting finish.

Marquez’s choice of tyres seemed to give him an advantage in the climax as he edged out Dovizioso’s Ducati for a memorable win with Iannone back in third.

The Repsol Honda rider now holds a 72-point lead over Dovizioso. MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi is 87 points behind the Spaniard. There are five more races of the season.

Marquez also has six GP victories this season, 41 in his MotoGP career. He has 67 wins overall in his professional motorbike career as well as four MotoGP world titles.
