The organizers of the Canadian Grand Prix have confirmed that the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will continue to host a round of Formula 1 in 2017.

The track in Montreal signed a 10-year deal with the commercial rights holder in 2014. But the race for next season was listed as provisional on the first draft of the 2017 calendar.

It is supposed that the issue was related to a track revamp that had been promised for next year. But would not be delivered on time.

After months of negotiations between the Montreal Mayor and the F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, the matter finally have been sorted.

Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre posted on Twitter that a deal had now been reached for the event and tickets were going on sale this week.

“Agreement in principle with FOWC [Formula One World Championship] and Octane [the race promoters]” Coderre confirmed. – There will be a Grand Prix of Canada in 2017.”

Coderre later told reporters that more details of the arrangements would follow in due course. This is because approval for funding would have to go to a public vote.
