Sebastien Ogier increased his lead in the Tour of Corsica to 46.5 seconds from Thierry Neuville on the second day of the event. The Frenchman posted the fastest time in two of the four speed tests on the day’s program. Meeke was fastest in one, and Thierry Neuville in the other and final stage for the day.
Ogier started the day with the third fastest time in the fifth stage, which featured many tricky turns, and shared the best time with Volkswagen teammate Andreas Mikkelsen in the next one. Ogier won the technical seventh stage with some downhill hairpins then drove cautiously in the rain.
”I just wanted to finish the day in the tricky conditions,” he said after conceding 13 seconds to Neuville in the final stage of the day. ”It was really cruising for us.” Mikkelsen is 3rd, 20 seconds adrift, followed by Jari-Mati Latvala in Volkswagen. The fin had brake problems all the day and is more than a half a minute behind the Norwegian.
Fifth is Craig Breen in Citroen DS3 from Abu Dabu Total WRT. His teammate Kris Meeke had to retire. He broke Ogier’s run of wins in the fifth stage, bur hit a tree 400 meters after the start of the next stage.
