The Mercedes team announced that Valtteri Bottas would receive a 5-place grid penalty due to a gearbox change. According to the team, this is an unscheduled change.
Lewis Hamilton was in the same situation during last weekend in Austria.
Bottas expressed earlier satisfaction from the beginning of the weekend. He was fastest on both Friday training sessions.
Mercedes stated that Bottas’ gearbox has the same damage as Hamilton’s from a week ago. The team tried to keep it up until the end of the six rounds-change. The team is aware of the problem and is convinced that it will not show up later this season.
