Danilo Petrucci set the fastest time during the second practice session for the San Marino Grand Prix, as less than four-tenths of a second covered the leading eight riders.

Marc Marquez, as in the first session, led the way for the bulk of proceedings at Misano. Before he was bumped down by a flurry of late improvements elsewhere.

Petrucci edged clear with a 1:33.231, which proved to be the quickest time. While Maverick Viñales came closest to dislodging the Italian, finishing just 0.005s in arrears.

Title leader Andrea Dovizioso finished third. He was in front of Repsol Honda pair Dani Pedrosa and Márquez. The latter not improving late on after crashing through Turn 16.

Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) finished in sixth spot, recovering from a fall at Turn 15, as Ducati duo Michele Pirro and Jorge Lorenzo took seventh and eighth, the latter just 0.383s down on Petrucci.

Suzuki’s Andrea Iannone and Marc VDS’ Tito Rabat rounded out the top 10.
