Valtteri Bottas was fastest in the second free Friday practice session before the F1 British Grand prix. Second was his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, just 0.047 seconds behind the Finn. The Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were third and fourth in the standings.
The weather was still cool and cloudy for the second Friday session. The air temperature was below 20 degrees – at the beginning, it was 17 while the track’s was up to 30.
The analysis after the morning session was that the teams had some difficulty warming the tyres in cool weather. Ferrari was also expected to show a stronger pace by increasing the regimes of its new power unit.
Work began quickly and the first times were a fact immediately at the bеginning of the session. Vettel was fastest with 1:30.230 minutes. Ferrari started its program with the soft tyres.
Meanwhile, Romain Grosjean again had problems with the brakes – he said on the radio that he was blocking the rears. Carlos Sainz spun at Becketts in a similar way to Vettel during the first session. Toro Rosso’s driver managed to continue but told his team that his tyres were ruined after going through the grass.
Bottas started his program with the medium compound, while Hamilton was with the soft one. The Englishman topped the standings with 1:28.780.
Verstappen complained of understeer and that he could not drive his car like that. He went back to the garage. Hamilton bettered his own time to 1:28.543.

Half an hour after the start of the session, Bottas put on supersofts and quickly took the first position, improving his teammate’s time with 0.047sec (1: 28.496). that turned out to be the best lap of the afternoon.
Hamilton flew off the track at Becketts, then told his team that there were probably damages to the car. This happened in a fast supersoft lap and the Englishman got into the box. Ricciardo almost did the same but managed to catch his car.
Ferrari meanwhile was making tyre comparison. Raikkonen was on used soft and Vettel – on used supersoft.
There were more incidents at Becketts. 15 minutes before the chequered flag Bottas put on medium tyres again. The only other driver to test them was Daniil Kvyat. All the others were with the softer compounds.
