Ford unveiled two special edition Ford Mustang models with unique styling and premium specification for customers in Europe.
The new Ford Mustang Black Shadow Edition offers special black 19-inch alloys wheels and unique black body details. The distinctive Ford Mustang Blue Edition model channels the spirit of classic Ford Mustang models that featured eye-catching “Grabber” colours, offering a Grabber Blue body with sporty body stripes.
Both models are available in fastback bodystyle. They also have a high specification that includes heated and cooled seats, Ford’s SYNC3 communications and entertainment system with navigation, and a premium audio system.
“The Ford Mustang has no trouble standing out on European roads, and with the new Ford Mustang Black Shadow Edition and Blue Edition models, Mustang drivers will be turning even more heads,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “Special edition Ford Mustangs have been an important part of the Mustang story for more than 50 years. Now customers in Europe can play their own part in the iconic car’s rich special edition history.”
Mustang Black Shadow Edition
The Ford Mustang Black Shadow Edition will be available to order with Ford’s 421 PS 5.0-litre V8 engine and six-speed manual or sixspeed automatic transmission from January 2017.
It has four body colour options – Platinum White, Triple Yellow, Race Red and Grabber Blue. The Black Shadow Edition features unique bodystyling with a black Pony emblem for the GT grille. The features also include exclusive black 19-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels; dissolve-effect black stripes along the prominent bonnet bulge ridges and across the body-side between the lower wheel arches; and black 5.0-litre badges on the front wings.
The high specification limited edition model delivers parking sensors, heated and cooled front seats. A premium ShakerPro audio system with 12-speakers and a powerful 8-inch bootmounted subwoofer turn music in a special experience. A premium black leather interior with prominent instrument panel stitching and matching door inserts are also available.
Mustang Blue Edition
Ford’s distinctive Grabber colours are named for their ability to grab attention. They were first introduced for the 1969 Shelby GT350 and GT500 models.
Since then Ford has periodically offered the Mustang in more than 20 different Grabber colours. These include Grabber Orange, Grabber Yellow and Grabber Lime – with Grabber-coloured models historically becoming of special interest to collectors.
The new Ford Mustang Blue Edition is available with either Ford’s 421 PS 5.0-litre V8 or 317 PS 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine and six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. It is in Grabber Blue exterior body colour, central dissolve-effect black bonne and roof stripes, and black 19-inch multi-spoke alloys wheels.
Both new special edition models feature Ford’s SYNC 3 system with 8-inch touchscreen. It enables drivers to locate nearby cafés, petrol stations or car parks, and find train stations, airports, and hotels. This is done simply by pushing a button and saying “I need a coffee,” “I need petrol,” and “I need to park.”
The Ford Mustang 5.0-litre V8 fastback manual model reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in 4.8 seconds. The 2.3-litre EcoBoost fastback manual reaches the marker in 5.8 seconds.
The iconic sports car’s launch was in the summer of 2015
Almost 23,000 Ford Mustangs have been sold and ordered in Europe since then. Around two thirds of those have been fastback models, while red, grey and black are the most popular Mustang colours in Europe. 64 per cent of customers select the V8 engine, while EcoBoost models are most popular in southern Europe.
Among the Mustang’s biggest fans is self-confessed “Mustang nut” Adelbert Engler from Belgium. He has amassed a collection of 5,500 Mustang model cars, as well as several full‑sized classic models. Another remarkable fan is 97-year-old Lennart Ribring from Sweden. He was one of the first to buy a 1960 original and is now the owner of a new one.
