Force India driver Sergio Perez promotes together with the Mexican Grand prix organizers are promoting a campaign with the slogan #BridgesNotWalls. The message was on display at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
The campaign is against the proclaimed by US president Donald Trump intention to build a wall at the US-Mexican border.
“This is an open invitation for everyone moved to stand up to the rise of the far right here and around the world. There are so many good reasons to protest this moment that it’s impossible to fit them all on one banner. Bridges Not Walls is a chance to say what you want to say about it, in your own words, but as part of a bigger collective project that connects the dots between all of our concerns”, reads the message on the campaigns website.

“World class international events such as the F1 Mexican Grand prix provide an excellent opportunity to showcase to the world what the Mexican people are capable of achieving when we work together”, the driver said.
Perez already took a clear position over Trump’s wall vision and the claim that Mexico would pay for it. An inappropriate comment on Twitter from Hawkers MX made Sergio sever his contract with the company.
“I am breaking my relationship with Hawkers MX. I will never let anyone make fun of my country”, was Perez’s reaction back then.
The sunglasses manufacturer apologized and deleted the original message.
F1 drivers usually do not demonstrate political views. Only Pastor Maldonado expressed his opinion on political matters in recent years.
