Sebastian Vettel was fastest in the last free practice at Circuit of the Americas before the qualifying for the Formula 1 US Grand prix. The German Ferrari driver has a 3-place grid penalty for not slowing down sufficiently at the red flags in FP1 on Friday. That is why even if he is fastest in the qualifying, his starting position will be 4th at most.

Second in the standings was Kimi Raikkonen with the second Ferrari. The Scuderia drivers and Williams were the only teams that used only the ultrasoft tyres throughout the whole session. All other teams tried more of the Pirelli slicks for COTA which are soft, supersoft and ultrasoft.
The Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were third and fourth while the Red Bulls took fifth (with Max Verstappen) and sixth (with Daniel Ricciardo).
The session went on without major incidents. It was the first practice this weekend on a dry circuit. The weather changed today and the chance for rain in FP3 was only 10%. Prognosis for the qualifying is the same.
