The Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were faster than their Mercedes rivals in the second free practice session before the Italian Grand prix. Vettel gave the best time, his teammate was second while Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas took the third and fourth positions.
The clouds from the first part of the day disappeared until the beginning of FP2. According to the meteorologists, there was a 60% of rain but it never came although there still were wet patches on the circuit.
Marcus Ericsson had a huge crash at the very beginning of the practice. His Sauber suddenly went left before the first chicane, crashed in the barrier and somersaulted in the air, rolling over a couple of times. The driver got out safely from the cockpit of his crushed car and went to the medical centre.

After that, Sauber made tests with the DRS and the rear wing of Charles Leclerc’s car. The Monegasque had a couple of problems with the drag-reduction-system and went back to the pits.
There was one more incident during the session. Half an hour before the chequered flag Vettel spun off at Parabolica. He almost touched the safety barrier but managed to get back on the circuit and to go to the box.
