Daniel Ricciardo was fastest on Day 1 of the first F1 pre-season. The Red Bull RB14 appeared in its racing livery today. The Australian’s best time was 1:20.179min.
The day began with the presentation of the last two cars for the 2018 Formula 1 championship – Toro Rosso STR13 and Force India VJM11. Ricciardo gave his best time before lunch. There was some rain in the late afternoon and no one bettered it. Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) was second and Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) – third.
Ricciardo was the only driver with more than 100 laps – he made 102.
11 drivers took part in Monday’s session. The practice was disrupted a couple of times. The first red flag was after a wheel nut problem caused a crash with Fernando Alonso’s McLaren. He had only 10 laps for the first half of the day but later managed to gain some more and finished practice with a total of 48 laps and fifth time.
