Porsche took a dramatic victory in the 85th 24 Hours of Le Mans – a record 19th win in the history of the brand after the successes in 1970, 1971, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981-1987, 1994, 1996-1998, 2015 and 2016.

It was a really remarkable race, in which a lot of LMP1s did not survive. Two of the Toyota cars and the German car with #1 retired, while their teammates had technical problems in the course of the event. #2 had an hour and a half pit last night and almost nobody expected it to return in the fight. Toyota suffered a disastrous night as it two leading cars retired because of a clutch problem and a crash. Then Porsche #1 stopped due to an oil pressure issue.

An hour and 5 minutes before the chequered flag Timo Bernhard in the Porsche #2 passed Ho-Pin Tung in the #38 Jackie Chan DC Oreca for the lead. 9 minutes later Bernhard made a pitstop, remaining behind the wheel. The last visit to the garage was about 25 minutes before the end of the race. After that Bernhard controlled the pace to the chequered flag.
