The Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were first and second fastest in the second free practice for the Australian Grand prix. Max Verstappen with Red Bull took the third position in front of his teammate Pierre Gasly. Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) was fifth.

The session went through without major incidents. Alex Albon spun again but this time managed to keep his Toro Rosso away from the barriers. At the very end, Charles Leclerc had a spin. He also managed to get back to the pits. Meanwhile, Gasly said on the radio that he had lost power.

At the beginning of the session, the teams worked mainly with medium and hard tyres. Verstappen had the longest program on only mediums and put on the softs for the last 20 minutes of the practice.
