Marc Marquez made it an incredible nine wins in a row at the German Grand Prix as he saw off Valentino Rossi at the Sachsenring. The four-time World Champion now has a lead of 46 points as the season heads into the summer break.

Marquez started from pole but fell to third behind Danilo Petrucci and Jorge Lorenzo. The Repsol Honda rider recovered from the slow start to edge past Petrucci before taking Lorenzo mid-race and extending his lead.

Marquez has now won at the German venue for nine years in a row, dating back to his days in the 125cc class in 2010

“Every year is more and more difficult. Especially this year as we had good conditions all weekend so everyone could set up their bikes in a good way. I am happy to take 25 points and go into the summer break with a good victory”, he said.

On Saturday, the Spaniard also qualified on pole position for the ninth time in a row.

Márquez now has 40 wins and 70 podiums in his MotoGP career, and is still just 25-years-old.

Rossi enjoyed his best result of the season to come in second, 2.1 seconds behind Márquez. Maverick Vinales crossed the line in third.
