The World Championship has existed since 1950 and is administered by the International Automobile Federation (FIA). A championship is held annually, at the end of which two titles are awarded - one for the drivers and one for the constructors. The distribution of the majority of the sport's revenue among the teams depends on the latter. This commercial side of F1 is managed by the commercial rights holder, which since 2017 has been the American conglomerate Liberty Media.\r\n\r\nFormula 1 is the direct successor to the Grand Prix races held primarily in Europe during the 1920s and 1930s. The regulations are prepared by the FIA. However, the adoption process is structured in a way that the regulations are first approved by the teams before reaching the federation's World Motor Sport Council, where they receive final ratification.\r\n\r\nFrom the founding of Formula 1 in 1950 up to and including 2022, 34 drivers have won the world title. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are the only two drivers with 7 crowns each. Juan Manuel Fangio has 5, while Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel have 4 each. Five drivers have 3 titles each - Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Nelson Piquet, and Ayrton Senna. Seven drivers have 2 titles, while the remaining 20 have 1 title each.\r\n\r\n15 teams have taken the constructors' title in Formula 1. Ferrari holds the most triumphs in this category with 16. McLaren and Williams are tied with 9 titles each, followed by Mercedes with 8. Lotus has 7 titles, and Red Bull has 6.\r\n\r\nThe number of races in a single season varies from year to year. The Formula 1 races for each season are decided by the FIA and Liberty Media, after which they receive final approval from the federation's World Motor Sport Council.
