Mahindra Racing’s Nick Heidfeld will return to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed this week in a bid to make history and set the open-wheel electric benchmark for the hillclimb course.

Heidfeld is currently the course record holder at Goodwood after setting an impressive time of 41.6 seconds in a McLaren MP4/13 in 1999. If successful, Heidfeld will be the first driver to hold two records at Goodwood.

The attempt will also be the first public outing of Mahindra Racing’s season four challenger, the M4Electro. To date, only Heidfeld and teammate Felix Rosenqvist has tested the car. Mahindra ambassador and actress Gul Panag also drive it. She successfully trained to drive the car in less than 24 hours.

The season four cars will make their official debut until pre-season testing later this year. But the Mahindra Racing team chose this opportunity to unveil the next generation of Formula E car. The M4Electro is an evolution of three seasons’ worth of learning and will be the team’s first foray into a single gear solution.
